Cold & Olympics

February 16th, 2010

Well, we’ve been snowed it over the past week and a half.  It hasn’t seemed to quit!  In the Cincinnati area, this is more than we are used to.  Now, I grew up in Southwest Michigan, right across from Chicago.  So, I’m used to a regular dumping of snow, but after 20 years in Cincinnati, you’re not quite as accustomed to it.  Here’s a look at some of the people digging out.

That said, the snow has been good for one thing.  It’s gotten me to want to watch the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.  Up until yesterday, they could have used some of our snow!  It seems to me that there are more exciting events than ever.  I love the Snowboard Cross, and the Short Track Speed Skating is always a thriller.  I was glad to see Canada get their first gold.  What a great story with the older brother having cerebral palsy. What a great story!  The olympics are filled with them.

So, if you’re like me, you’ll want to cuddle up and stay warm and watch some more sports.  Cuddle that baby up with a blanket as well!

Experts Say a Security Blanket Could Help Your 8-12 Month Old Baby Sleep Better

February 6th, 2010

Kids Health, from Nemours posted an article on “Sleep and Your 8- to 12-Month-Old”.  If you are a parent struggling with how to help your child develop healthy sleep patterns and/or how to approach sleep issues your baby may be having, take a few minutes to review the article by clicking the title above.  It covers the following topics:

* How Long Will My Baby Sleep?
* Where and How Should My Baby Sleep?
* Encouraging Sleep
* When to Call the Doctor

In the article, Kids Health stated, “If your baby has a favorite toy or blanket that you feel is safe to have in the crib, it can be left for comfort. This is when “transitional” objects become important to babies. They help your baby transition from being with you most of the time to having some time away from you and becoming more independent.”

If you’re looking for a security blanket or any other unique baby blanket, browse our retail site at blanketmybaby.com.  With security blankets, it is recommended that you buy a few of the same blanket so that your baby will always have one available.  This way if one is in the wash, gets lots or is left at daycare your baby will still have one to establish the feelings of familiarity and comfort.

Ward off the cold with a new baby blanket

January 13th, 2010

Well, it’s been really cold across much of the U.S. for the past few weeks.  It’s been reported that even tropical states like Florida have had several instances of below freezing temperatures.  What a great time to consider a new baby blanket (or two!) to keep your little one warm and cozy.

Any blanket will add some warmth for baby, but at blanketmybaby.com, we have a few unique blankets that add a touch of extra warmth.

Try a fabric like flannel or fleece.  If the blanket is for tummy time or play time, buy a thicker, large blanket for your floor for the winter season.  You will also need a warm blanket for the stroller and on-the go.  Some options from our online store include:

Featured Fleece:

Featured Cotton Flannel and Organic Cotton Flannel:

Featured blankets for winter tummy time or stroller:

Also try baby sleeping bags/sleep sacks, to keep your child nice and cozy and to prevent them from kicking the blanket off while sleeping.  Check out our entire selection of sleep sacks by clicking here.

Thank You BMB Customers

December 10th, 2009

I haven’t been able to do this enough, but I wanted to take some time to thank you to all of our customers!  You guys are the best!  BlanketMyBaby has steadily grown each month for the past six months, and we don’t plan on stopping any time soon.  You are helping us do that.  So, thank you!

We are continuing to add more blankets to our selection in an effort to be your one stop shop on the internet for all of your baby blanket needs.  We are even looking into adding additional categories to our site.  So, be on the lookout for that.

Our most popular blankets have been and could continue to be our aden and anais 4 packs.  We have scoured the internet for you in an effort to give you the lowest net price of blankets + shipping.  Many of you have heard the great news at how great these swaddling blankets are, and you are spreading the word.  Again, thank you!  These blankets get softer with every wash and are excellent for swaddling.  Target has come out with their own line of these blankets for $29.99, but the quality is not the same and the blankets are smaller.  So, we look forward to being the best destination of aden + anais 4 packs.  Plus, if you are interested in the sleeping bags, let us know!  We might start adding those blankets for when your baby is growing and outgrowing his or her blanket.

Ok, I guess I’ll wrap it up.  I just can’t say THANK YOU enough!  We hope your Christmas shopping is going well and that you will be able to focus on this wonderful season for its true meaning.

Best,

Eric

Muslin Cotton Swaddling Cloths are a Family Tradition

November 11th, 2009

I was talking with my mom over the weekend letting her know how much my sister-in-law loved the Aden and Anais swaddling blankets we gave her for the birth of her fourth child, our second niece.  My mom told me that while muslin swaddling wraps are really popular with modern moms, my great grandmother, better known as Granny, used muslin cloths to swaddle her children and grandchildren.  The material is breathable, stretches and is great for securing a snug wrap that will keep baby’s arms and legs tucked in. Believe me, if Granny did it, it is worth considering.

Granny was an amazing figure of strength in my family and had wisdom that takes a lifetime to acquire.  I admired her faith and her compassion, which were apparent in all she did.  Born in 1912, she saw a lot in her lifetime.  She lived much of her life in poverty and hardship, but was always giving to others.  One of the ways she served her poor farming community was by acting as a midwife.  She delivered many babies in a time when you had to boil water for sterilization and signal an ambulance by ringing a huge emergency bell in the yard.

The woman knew how to deliver a baby and get it to sleep without any fancy methods.  She tore apart old cotton muslin sheets to make tried-and-true homemade swaddling wraps. She knew that swaddled babies sleep best.

Granny died a few years ago and our family really misses her.  I carry on many of the things she taught me and hope that when we are blessed enough to have our own children, they will continue to carry on her legacy of faith and strength.  Whenever I wrap them in muslin swaddling blankets I will remember Granny.

For unique swaddling blankets in mod fashion (and we promise they’re not made of old sheets) check out blanketmybaby.com’s selection of Aden and Anais muslin cotton wraps.

How To Swaddle A Baby

September 23rd, 2009

Ok, you’ve heard all the rage.  You’ve read all the articles.  You know that swaddling is a good idea for your baby.  Not only can it help prevent SIDS, but it also provides a comforting, warm place for your baby.  This of course leads to a good night’s sleep for your baby.  And what does that mean for mommy and daddy?  You guessed it!  SLEEP!!!  We know how important it is for parents to get a good night’s rest.  If not, you’ll be walking around like my good friend Aaron “Harang-a-tang” Harang, who looks like the living dead most of the time.

Don’t wind up looking like this Reds pitcher.  You can do better than that.  So, here is a video to teach you how to swaddle your baby.  You may ask which blanket is best for swaddling.  We recently gave an aden and anais 4 pack to my brother and sister and law for their 4th child, and she swears by them.  Little Hallie has been sleeping great with these blankies and your son or daughter can too.  Shop for all of our swaddling blankets here.  But first, a bit of instruction.

Now, go get some sleep!
