3 Morning Sickness Remedies That Can Really Bring You Relief

April 22nd, 2011

While morning sickness symptoms may be a normal part of being pregnant, and they are something every pregnant women experiences, that doesn’t mean you have to put up with the symptoms. Unfortunately, when you experience morning sickness, you can have uncomfortable symptoms anytime during the day, not just the morning. The following are some remedies to help you get over morning sickness.

When you are pregnant and having morning sickness symptoms, it’s extremely important to stay hydrated. Unfortunately, some women find that at this time water makes them feel more nauseated. Yet, you need plenty of fluids in order to stay healthy, which is true all of the time, but now in particular. To get around the bad feelings water brings on, you may want to find other beverages you like so that you can find relief of your horrible morning sickness symptoms. Some good examples are ginger ale or iced herbal tea with lemon and ginger added to it. Some women love smoothies during morning sickness that include fresh fruit and all natural yogurt. Incidentally, yogurt is very good for the digestion process and so it’s always recommended for a pregnancy diet as it can help you feel better during your times of morning sickness. As a general rule, cold beverages will always help you feel your best during morning sickness. The beverage options we just discussed will not only keep your water levels at optimum levels, but they will help your morning sickness symptoms subside.

Another great tip for getting rid of morning sickness symptoms is to use essential oils. It’s also common for pregnant women to a heightened sensitivity to certain odors. This can be negative, in the case of bad smells, but you can also be helped by therapeutic odors, which is why aromatherapy is recommended for morning sickness. Some scents are especially beneficial for this condition, such as peppermint oil. Peppermint is recommended for digestion, and you can also take it as a tea or in supplement form, but as an essential oil you will immediately take in the benefits. If you don’t have aromatherapy equipment, you can simply place a couple of drops of peppermint oil in a bowl of hot water. You may want to use this in your bedroom at night, and it may prevent or lessen your symptoms in the morning. Of course there are other scents that do well such as lemon and lavender.

Another remedy you can try for morning sickness is to get a massage or other form of body work. Therapy massages are great for morning sickness symptom relief, but you’ll also feel like a million bucks afterwards. If you are going to go in for a massage therapy session, always request someone who has the skills to work with pregnant women. If you want to find a good massage therapist who has the abilities to work with pregnant people, then ask those people you know if they have ever had a massage while pregnant. You may find that your masseuse uses special rubs on pressure points to help relieve even more symptoms. If you are lucky enough to find the perfect masseuse or bodyworker, then you’ll hopefully get rid of your morning sickness symptoms once and for.

Morning sickness usually only lasts during the first trimester of pregnancy, but it’s still horrible just the same. Just make sure you get plenty of rest, eat when you feel hungry and use the above remedies for your morning sickness and your first trimester will be over before you even realize.

Morning sickness is just one of the things pregnant woman will face. Here’s a website that will also cover: Pregnancy Week By Week

Quit smoking During pregnancy – Quitting Cigarette smoking In pregnancy Made Simple

February 21st, 2011

Are you currently an expecting mother who is still smoking cigarettes? Do you want to stop smoking while pregnant? Wonderful, you are doing the most wonderful thing you can to defend the well being of your child. Make no bones about it; cigarette smoking can be devastating to your child both when you are pregnant and after the delivery. But you would like to quit smoking during pregnancy, so good for you!

For starters, please, do not beat yourself up about smoking while pregnant. You are not an awful person; you just have a bad habit. And just the fact that you are reading this write-up demonstrates you want to do what’s right for your baby. So let’s see what we can do to put an end to your smoking habit for good and help you quit smoking during pregnancy.

Women that are pregnant who attempt to stop smoking have to face quite a few smoking cessation options. But as an expecting mother you will need to go with a quitting smoking method that fulfills your requirements. Exactly what are your requirements? Well, you will need to be sure your baby is kept safe so you need to ensure that you choose a strategy to give up smoking that is:

-All natural: You must make sure you are avoiding chemicals or substances that could hurt your baby.

-Extremely effective: You don’t have the time to attempt several attempts at giving up cigarette smoking.

-Succeeds fast: Time is off the essence; the sooner you stop smoking during pregnancy the less threat you put on your child.

So is there a way to give up smoking that fulfills all of these requirements? Without a doubt there is but let’s have a look at a couple of other ways to quit smoking which you, being a pregnant woman, definitely really need to avoid like the plague.

For starters do not even attempt to give up smoking “cold turkey”. Attempting to quit without any help provides you with a very low potential for being successful. Next, rule out quitting smoking medications as these are simply not safe in pregnancy. Finally, forget nicotine replacement therapies like the patch. They work by providing nicotine into the body and you want to keep away from nicotine while pregnant. So steer clear of these methods to stop smoking while pregnant.

Seeing that we have eliminated the unsafe ways to stop smoking what is left? It looks like we now have taken everything off the plate. But we have not at all there exists one quitting smoking method that we have remaining and it meets all the criteria we have listed above. What is it?

Hypnotherapy, particularly NLP based hypnotherapy. NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. And it’s the most effective way for expecting mothers to quit the smoking habit. It satisfies every one of the necessary criteria: as a type of hypnotherapy it’s all natural; it is quite effective and it has a high success rate, also it works quickly. It also has the added benefit of being really easy to use; you do not have to see an expert to stop smoking while pregnant with NLP. With NLP all you’ve got to do is listen to a specially programmed audio recording to quit cigarette smoking. NLP is the obvious way to stop smoking while pregnant so look into NLP as your quitting smoking technique during pregnancy.

Some Questions About Woman’s Infertility

February 14th, 2011

If you’re a woman over 35 years old and you want to conceive, you’re probably frustrated at studies that tell you how women your age are less likely to have babies than younger women. You need to remember that pregnancy is just difficult but not entirely impossible for you. The decrease in fertility as women get older is probably due to several factors. First, a problem with chromosomes may be the main cause of an unrecognized miscarriage . One sign of early miscarriage may be irregularity in menstruation. Second, aging may affect the uterus. Implantation of the fertilized egg may be difficult because of the presence of fibrous tissue inside the uterus, which is a common phenomenon for aging women.

Doctors take the age of parents-to-be very seriously and while waiting times of up to 1 year is reasonable for women under 30, most care providers will begin testing and treating women over 35 after 6 months of trying to become pregnant. Women over 40 years old receive treatment for infertility almost immediately. A steady decline in conception chance is obvious from 35 years old onward. By age 40, around one-third of couples are likely to have problems becoming pregnant. Two thirds of women who are older than 40 years have difficulty conceiving.

More resources and advice are available from natural family planning facilities and infertility support groups. Somehow, learning more about conception can make you feel at ease and more in control of your own conception. The knowledge that there are alternative treatments around you may also put you at ease.

If you’re thinking of seeking help from a specialist in fertility, make sure that the doctor you choose will be able to provide you with a range of alternatives.

Many doctors recommend psychological counseling for all couples with infertility issues. If the monthly roller coaster of hope and disappointment has resulted in serious frustration or if planned sex has zapped your relationship, you may want to consider seeing a counselor, even without medical infertility intervention.

Aging women who may already have health issues should see a fertility specialist at once. irregularity in menstruation may be an indicator that you need to see a specialist soon. Before you do anything, however, always think of the effect of treatment options on your psyche, budget and relationship.

6 Distinct Ways That Smoking Can Harm Your Unborn Baby

February 9th, 2011

In the course of its several phases of growth, your fetus will get all its vital nutrients from you. From the diet you eat, the water you consume to the air you take in will help promote the development of your child into a healthy one. Naturally, this suggests that there’s absolutely no room for damaging cigarettes and the effects of smoking. Being pregnant is the time to stop cigarette smoking for the reason that smoking and pregnancy simply do not go together.

Cigarette smoke contains many harsh chemicals that are released by way of burning the tobacco and its many additives. The smoke includes tar consisting of in excess of 4,000 chemicals and 60 of which are identified to result in cancer. Also, you could be surprised to find out that the smoke of cigarettes comes with acetylene, ammonia, benzene, cyanide, formaldehyde and methanol. The hazards attributable to these unsafe chemicals are not simply detrimental to the developing fetus but also to the expecting mother.

Some other effects linked to smoking and pregnancy include:

1. Ectopic Pregnancy – This occurs once the pregnancy atypically develops outside of the uterus. In many cases, the egg develops while in the fallopian tube also in exceptional situations it may develop while in the ovary, the belly or cervix. Expecting mothers who smoke have great risk of developing ectopic pregnancies though there are other possible causes.

2. Cleft Lip or Cleft Palate – This specific birth defect is common, affecting 1 in every 700 born newborns in the United States annually. A cleft develops when there’s a split in the baby’s lip or a missing part on the baby’s mouth area (palate). This tends to have an impact on the baby’s appearance though it could possibly be fixed by having a surgery.

3. Reduced Birth Weight – Should the bodyweight of a new born infant is under 5 pounds 8 ounces, then it’s regarded as low birth weight. Using tobacco can double the threats of having a baby with low birth weight which could certainly bring about other problems like mental retardation, cerebral palsy and worse yet, death.

4. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome – Generally known as as crib death. This can be due to the smoking of cigarettes before and after the delivery of the infant. SIDS is an inexplicable abrupt death of an infant or new born aging beneath 12 months.

5. Stillbirth (the infant passes away previous to its delivery) – This is due to poor fetal growth.  Women who smoke cigarettes ordinarily have an increased risk of having an infant that develops very slowly.

6. Premature Labor and Delivery – Smoking cigarettes is among the significant reasons behind premature delivery (the infant is born prior to its anticipated date of birth).

Even after birth your son or daughter can suffer from the effects of smoking during pregnancy. Maternity cigarette smoking also can have long lasting side effects on the child’s advancement that could include bronchial asthma, behavioral troubles and learning handicaps. However these are usually averted when you quit smoking during pregnancy and after as well.

We Have A Son!

September 13th, 2010

I have a son!  My wife, Witni, gave birth to our son at 2:13pm on September 8, 2010.  The total delivery time from when her water broke at 5am on September 7th to when he was born was 33 hours.  33 hours of labor!  My wife is a superwoman.  And not only did she go through 33 hours of labor, but she delivered vaginally.  Unbelievable.  I was right there coaching her the whole way, and it must have been the hardest night of our life, but we were rewarded with our little boy!  Emil Regan Sztanyo was 6 lbs and 13 oz when he was born.  Emil (pronounced like Emmit) is after his great grandfather, a WWII veteran, Christian patriarch and humble man.  He is almost 89 years old, and he played a round of golf with my brother last week.  Regan means born into a royal family, which we believe he is born into THE Royal Family, those adopted by our Father.

Emil & Mom Seconds After Birth

What a joy and a blessing this little baby is to us.  We had been praying for him to come for a long, long time.  A few years ago, we were called out of a high school ministry, Young Life, and knew God was telling us to start this business and have a family.  A year and a half after trying, we were pregnant with little Emil.  And now, we know we are completely blessed by his arrival.  God gave us this blessing, and helped us through the delivery.  In fact, in those final hours of the night, as my wife was suffering through the pain and exhaustion, we prayed like we had never prayed before.  We prayed for this baby to come, for the pain to cease, for the desire to push (we never got to 10 cms), for mercy and for deliverance.  He heard or prayers.  There were so many scriptures going through our minds, but none more prevalent than this one:

1 Unless the LORD builds the house,
its builders labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
the watchmen stand guard in vain.2 In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to those he loves.

3 Sons are a heritage from the LORD,
children a reward from him.

4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are sons born in one’s youth.

5 Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their enemies in the gate.

Psalms 127

The sex of our baby was a surprise to us, and when he finally did come, they asked me if I wanted to announced what he was.  I was so overwhelmed with relief that it was over for Witni that I had completely forgotten we didn’t know what it was!  So, I looked down at our baby, as he was laying on Witni’s chest, and emotionally blurted out, “it’s a boy!”.  What a blessing!

I have so much to write that I think I could write a book.  Emil is 4 days old today, and he is doing better each day.  We are breast feeding, and after some help from a lactation expert at the hospital, little Emil has acquired the “taste”.  He is eating better and better each day.  He was a bit jaundiced, and we had to take him in for tests the past few days, but he didn’t have to go on the “billy” blanket.  He got a little sun today, which I think he rather enjoyed.  He has so many people who love him already that he doesn’t know how good he has it.

Ok, enough for now, I’ll be sure to write much more later.  If you want to watch a bit more of the delivery (PG rated), here’s a video.

Final Trimester – Getting Ready For Our Little One

June 28th, 2010

Well, we have officially entered the final trimester of our first baby.  We’re so excited!  But with all the excitement, it’s easy to have fear creep in as well.  When it is  your first baby, there are so many unknowns.  We’re doing all we can to read up and be prepared, but no matter how much we read, we’re just going to have to go through the experience of labor to understand it.  Thankfully, there are really a lot of helpful resources out there.  I really like the bump.  Here is a great article about having a birth plan. Of course, even if you have a plan, there are always unexpected factors that can creep into the delivery.

As we are getting closer to the due date, we are preparing our home more and more.  We have finished painting our nursery (thanks mom!!!) and our crib and furniture are in the room.  It’s taking steps like these that make the pregnancy so much more real and exciting.  Of course, as baby is getting more and more active, it’s getting pretty hard to ignore!

We’re so thankful for friends and family who have asked about the pregnancy, and how we are doing.  We’re even more thankful that we will have a support group and a community when this baby is born.  We are excited to be parents, but are grateful for help.

We haven’t had a baby shower yet, but we have a few lined up.  We’ve even marked off a few of our favorite baby blankets from our stock that we would love to have for our little guy or girl.  Oh yeah, if I haven’t mentioned, it’s going to be a surprise.  We will know the sex when he or she is born.  Fun!

Here’s a pic of mama and baby on our babymoon to California.

We’re Pregnant!!!

March 11th, 2010

If you haven’t heard the news yet, we are pregnant!!!  This is such a blessing because we had been trying to get pregnant since the fall of 2008.  It has been a journey of faith, and we feel God is blessing us tremendously by answering our prayers.

My wife told me the news on a night that I was leaving for a Chick Fil A opening in Nashville, TN.  While I was feverishly packing up, she asked me to come in our room for a second.  She gave me a card that said, “we’ll miss you while you are gone.”  My immediate thought was, “typo”.  And then it registered… “WE”???  “REALLY”??!!!!????!!!!  We hugged and laughed and cried together all at the same time.  It was a precious moment that I’ll never forget.

Then, I packed up my car and drove 4 hours away for 2 days, leaving my pregnant wife behind to go score some free chicken.  I know.  Crazy, right?  Because of some health complications she had as a child, my wife wanted to keep the news to ourselves until we were further along in the pregnancy.  But, we are now nearly 13 weeks and everything is going great!  We’re still praying for a healthy pregnancy and baby.

So, as I take care of my sleepy, nauseous wife, we are looking forward to the great adventure of parenting that lies in front of us.

Watch the video below to see our church’s reaction to telling the news (a few in the room knew already and several folks were absent for the big news, but still a lot of fun!).  Hooray!  In September, we’ll finally get to use some of these baby blankets!  :)
